2023 Ride Santa Barbara 100: A Journey Through California Paradise
The 2023 Ride Santa Barbara 100 is in the books, and what a book it was! This premier cycling event, held on the stunning California Central Coast, is an experience that every cyclist should add to their bucket list. Whether you're a seasoned pro or a weekend warrior, the Ride Santa Barbara 100 has something for everyone.
This year's event took place on Saturday, October 21st, and over 2,000 cyclists from all over the world came to Santa Barbara to test their limits and soak up the breathtaking scenery. With four routes to choose from – the 100-mile, 100-kilometer + climb challenge, 100-kilometer Coastal Route, and 34-mile option – there was a perfect distance for every rider.
The 100-mile route, considered the crown jewel of the event, took riders on a challenging yet rewarding journey through the Santa Ynez Valley and included an extra layer of difficulty with a timed climb on Casitas Pass. The views of casitas lake were rewarding while cyclists pushed themselves on the climb. Climbers were rewarded with stunning ocean views and exhilarating descents, while the flatter sections along the coast offered a chance to relax and enjoy the ride.
The 100-kilometer + Climb challenge included Painted Cave hill climb which was over 2 miles in length with an average grade exceeding 9%!
The 100-kilometer Coastal Route provided a scenic alternative for riders who wanted to enjoy the coastline without the climb. This route took riders past charming coastal towns, secluded beaches, and dramatic cliffs.
The 34-mile route was perfect for beginners or those who wanted a shorter but equally beautiful ride. This route still offered plenty of challenge with climbs, rolling hills, and stunning ocean views.
No matter the chosen route, the Ride Santa Barbara 100 was an experience that will not soon be forgotten. The camaraderie of fellow cyclists, the breathtaking scenery, and the sense of accomplishment at the finish line made this event truly special.
